Prude, Toffee, Weapon

2026
Current affairs demand that I write to exonerate, expose, and esteem; fleshing out perspectives that may be alien to the average Western reader. As a “native” inhabitant of this infamous “West”, I am familiar with its paradigm and how countless narratives have been spun in its favour. This combined with my ethnic background and ethical considerations find me returning to the topics of religion, culture and politics, time and time again. I still try to have fun while doing so, however. I love to play. But this does not prevent me from being easily pulled back down to reality. So when I write about pornstars, adversity, friendship, and little birds, what I’m really writing about is Islam, imperialism, angels, and genocide — and I will swing between transparency and opacity while doing so.

Fatality

2024
A collection of short stories I wrote, illustrated, and designed, subverting fairy tales assembled by the Brothers Grimm, in order to address the gaps between the morals communicated in old European fairy tales, and the attitudes that tend to be expressed within the current zeitgeist. This outcome also operates as a vessel for my criticisms and reflections on Western society through a satirical frame, and is therefore aimed at young adults, particularly due to the tone and illustrative styles I employed throughout. The key messages boil down to criticisms of racism, drug use, genocide, deception, and my own struggle with procrastination, through reimagining well-known stories: Little Red Riding Hood, Snow White, and The Frog Prince.

Slumber Party

2023
An experimental 40-page publication exploring the storytelling capacity of the human subconscious, with a focus on nightmares. The narrative begins on the cover, with the counting of sheep and deep thought, before the eventual lift-off into slumber. We explore the nightmares of four individuals from different backgrounds, and a short comic and final message bring the journey to an “open conclusion”. Double page spreads detailing the scientific and conceptual notions of what happens when we sleep ground the publication in reality. Mixed media collage and illustration on A5 paper
